Ninth Grade South Florida Student Wins National Financial Literacy Poster ContestFriday, April 15, 2011
ATLANTA, GA — Jordan Lane-Palmer, a 9th grader at the A.W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of Arts in West Palm Beach, Fla., is the national winner of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) annual “Be Money Wi$e” poster contest.
Jordan’s poster, which was among 1,800 entries from across the country, wholeheartedly captured the essence of the theme, “Be A $uperhero! $ave Money! His artwork was selected as the regional winner by the Palm Beach County and Treasure Coast offices of CredAbility and was submitted to compete in the national competition in February. His winning entry was chosen out of the 76 regional winners from around the country.
As part of the NFCC’s annual “Be Money Wi$e” effort to promote financial literacy among schoolchildren, students were encouraged to create posters that highlight being financially responsible.
“It is never too early to teach the importance of saving and managing your finances,” said Jessica Cecere, CredAbility regional president for Palm Beach County, Florida. “This contest was an excellent opportunity to promote financial education and reinforce the benefits of money management at any age.”
Students from 3rd through 12th grades were eligible to participate. Jordan’s winning entry earned him a trip to Washington, D.C., where he met Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and participated in several activities as part of national Financial Literacy Month. He was also presented with a $500 savings bond.
